Synopsis:
Directed by Jung Da-won and starring Ra Mi-ran and Lee Sung-kyung, “Girl Cops” is an action-comedy that exploded with popularity when it hit South Korean theaters in May 2019.
The film tells the story of two female cops who uncover a digital sex crime operation and launch a rogue investigation when the authorities fail to act fast enough. A leaked voyeuristic video is scheduled to be uploaded online in 48 hours — and the clock is ticking.

Plot:
Mi-young (Ra Mi-ran) and Ji-hye (Lee Sung-kyung) are sisters-in-law and former hotshot detectives in the major crimes unit. Due to various setbacks, both have been reassigned to dull desk duty in the civil complaints department.
One day, while returning to their office, they encounter a woman attempting suicide. They discover she is a victim of a hidden-camera sex crime ring, and the perpetrators plan to upload the explicit footage online in just 48 hours.
The case is urgent and complex, but the police departments are bogged down with red tape. Taking matters into their own hands, Mi-young and Ji-hye team up for an off-the-books investigation.
Why You Should Watch It:
- Lee Sung-kyung & Ra Mi-ran’s chemistry is gold: Their banter and dynamic are laugh-out-loud funny but also emotionally grounded.
- Socially relevant yet entertaining: The film tackles serious issues like digital sex crimes and victim-blaming, but with a sharp, comedic edge.
- Fast-paced and action-packed: No boring moments — the story is tight, and the energy never dips.
- Satisfying female-led revenge arc: It’s empowering without feeling preachy. Think Lethal Weapon but with badass Korean women.
If you love buddy cop comedies, feminist revenge thrillers, or just want to see Lee Sung-kyung in a more comedic and action-driven role — “Girl Cops” is 107 minutes of pure fun with a message.
