The Secret of the Legacy (a.k.a. The First Mountain)

From the Creators of Train to Busan Comes a New Netflix Thriller You’ll Finish in One Sitting

Dark, unsettling, and packed with mystery, The Secret of the Legacy is an upcoming Netflix original thriller that’s already building buzz with its chilling trailer and high-profile production team.

Behind the Scenes:

The drama is helmed by Yeon Sang-ho, the acclaimed writer-director behind the global zombie hit Train to Busan, and co-directed by Min Hong-nam, who served as assistant director on that very film. With a proven mastery of atmospheric horror and emotional suspense, the team reunites to deliver something darker—and more grounded.

The six-episode limited series stars Kim Hyun-joo, Park Hee-soon, Park Byung-eun, and Ryu Kyung-soo, and promises a tight, psychologically gripping mystery.

Plot Summary:

After the death of an uncle she barely knew, Yoon Seo-ha (played by Kim Hyun-joo) inherits a remote ancestral cemetery. But instead of a quiet inheritance, she finds herself pulled into a terrifying spiral of unexplained murders and eerie phenomena surrounding the land.

In the trailer, Seo-ha receives a strange phone call from a man asking if she knows someone claiming to be her uncle. Confused, she replies that she doesn’t remember having one. The next moment, she learns that this same uncle has died—and has left her as the sole heir to his ancestral grave site.

What begins as a mysterious inheritance quickly unfolds into something far more sinister, as the quiet mountain village hides buried secrets, generational guilt, and a curse rooted in blood.

What to Expect:

  • A slow-burning thriller steeped in atmosphere, folklore, and psychological tension
  • Cinematic visuals and eerie pacing, reminiscent of Hellbound and The Wailing
  • A powerful performance by Kim Hyun-joo, portraying a woman caught between past and present, superstition and truth
  • Only 6 tightly written episodes—perfect for a single-sitting binge

Verdict:

With its pedigree, tone, and promising teaser, The Secret of the Legacy is shaping up to be one of Netflix Korea’s strongest offerings this year. If you’re into dark family secrets, haunted legacies, and small-town mysteries, this is one to keep your eyes on.
